Kurz gesagt

  • What it is: The commuter train between Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, run by SFRTA.
  • At the airport: Miami Airport station, 3861 NW 21st St, one free MIA Mover ride from the terminal.
  • Fares: Set by zones; one-way and round-trip tickets went up 10% on October 1, 2026.
  • Weekends: A $5 weekend flat fare, left unchanged by the 2026 fare change.
  • Train times: Live on the Tri-Rail Train Tracker, or call 1-800-874-7245.

Tri-Rail is the cheap, slow train north from Miami: board it at the Miami Airport station via the free MIA Mover, buy the ticket at the platform machine, and check the Train Tracker before you go, because trains are not every few minutes.

Tri-Rail in one minute

Tri-Rail is the regional commuter railroad of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA). It runs north from Miami International Airport through Hialeah, Opa-locka and Golden Glades, into Broward (Fort Lauderdale airport and downtown Fort Lauderdale) and on to Boca Raton and West Palm Beach.

For a visitor it does two jobs well: it links the two big airports, MIA and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL), and it gets you to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton or West Palm Beach without a car. It does not go to Miami Beach, Brickell or Wynwood; for those you change to Metrorail, a bus or a ride app.

It is a commuter train, not a metro. Trains run to a timetable, so look up the next departure on the Train Tracker (trirailpublic.etaspot.net) before you walk to the platform. We could not open a current timetable on tri-rail.com in October 2026, so we do not quote first and last trains here.

Fares after October 1, 2026

Tri-Rail charges by zone, so the price depends on how far you ride. In June 2026 the SFRTA board took up a 10% increase on all one-way and round-trip tickets, with every adjusted fare rounded to the nearest whole dollar, a regional monthly pass of $165 and no change to the $5 weekend flat fare. News reports say the board approved it and the new fares started on October 1, 2026.

The exact fare between two stations was not readable on tri-rail.com when we checked, so use the fare calculator on the Tri-Rail site, or the price on the platform machine, before you buy. Discounted fares for eligible riders continue under Tri-Rail's existing rules, so ask at a kiosk if you qualify.
