Geprüft Oktober 2026

For anyone curious about Cuban Miami's exile history, told by the men who fought and their families. It's free and personal, but it's one side's account, and the doors close early.

Who tells the story

The veterans of Assault Brigade 2506, the Cuban exiles who landed at the Bay of Pigs in April 1961, run this museum. So the history comes in their voice: first-person accounts, photographs, artifacts and personal stories of the men who went ashore. The organization calls them freedom fighters and means it. That's the point and the limit. You get a view of the invasion you won't find in a textbook, from the people who lived it, but not a neutral survey of the Cold War. Go in knowing that, and it's one of the more personal history stops in Miami.

What's on the walls

Expect archives, artifacts and a library rather than flashy interactive screens. The museum also points visitors to its award-winning documentary, Veritas, which you can stream before or after a visit if you want more context. The website has an AudioFetch tutorial, which suggests audio you follow on your phone, so charge it before you go. Students and teachers get their own resources, and commemorations happen through the year. It's a nonprofit backed by county and state arts funding, with a shop and a donation page. It holds 4.7 from about 250 Google reviews.

Fitting it into your day

Hours are short: 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, closed Sunday. Holidays and special event days can change that, so call ahead. General admission is free; the website lists a $0 ticket you can grab online. Look for the Brigade 2506 monument at the entrance. The museum sits a block off Calle Ocho, so it pairs easily with a walk down 8th Street and lunch nearby. On a Saturday, get there early, since the doors close at 2.

Anfahrt

  1. Metrobus Route 8, the Calle Ocho line from Downtown, stops right in front of the museum.

Parken

The on-site lot is limited; free street parking on SW 8th St and the side streets is the backup.

Gut zu wissen

Hours shift on holidays and event days, so call (305) 649-4719 before you go.
