The evening show

Every evening the Mildred and Claude Pepper Fountain runs choreographed water, light and music shows facing Biscayne Bay, and it costs nothing. The park doesn't list set times on its main page. It points you to a separate fountain schedule and warns that shows shift for maintenance and special events, so check before you plan a night around it. Google lists the spot as open 24 hours, but the park itself runs 7 am to 11 pm daily, and that's the number to trust. It holds a 4.7 from about 230 Google reviews.

Turn it into a walk

The fountain sits inside Bayfront Park's 32 acres, so build a loop around it. There are palm-lined promenades along the bay, sculptures and memorials, a playground and a dog area. Find the Rock Garden Pond, where a family of seven turtles has become a staff favorite. Keep heading north and Maurice A. Ferré Park adds another 30 acres, though it closes at 10 pm, an hour earlier. Dogs are welcome on a leash, and you're expected to pick up after them. Restrooms are in front of the InterContinental Hotel.

Rules and event nights

Event nights change the picture. The FPL Amphitheater and the park host concerts, races and festivals, like Halloween's Boo on the Bay, and those can crowd or close parts of the grounds. The rest of the time the rules are firm: no alcohol outside authorized events, no fishing, no swimming, and no electric bikes or scooters, so leave the rental at the curb. Any organized picnic, barbecue or gathering needs a permit from the park trust. Glance at the events calendar before you go.
