You come for the walk. The Broadwalk is a paved promenade that runs along the beach in Hollywood, with cafes, ice cream shops and small hotels on one side and the sand on the other. Bikes, strollers and runners share it all day, and the beach in front is wide and family-friendly. It rates 4.7 from more than 12,000 Google reviews, a strong score for a place this busy.

When to go

Google lists 6 am to 7 pm every day. Early morning is the best walk, cool and quiet, with joggers and the sun coming up over the water. Midday on weekends is busy with families. Late afternoon and early evening are pleasant for a walk and a meal at one of the cafes along the path. Winter is high season, when visitors from the north fill the small hotels.

Know before you go

It is in Hollywood, Broward County, not Miami, so count on a 30 to 40 minute drive from downtown depending on traffic. Parking is in city garages and metered lots along the beach; it fills on weekends. The city can be reached at (954) 921-3404. Compared with South Beach it is calmer and more family-oriented, with fewer clubs and more casual cafes on the promenade.
