Geprüft November 2026
For a quiet, free hour with serious art on the UM campus in Coral Gables. Short hours, Wednesday to Saturday only, mean you need to plan the trip.
Free, with a timed ticket
General admission is free, funded by the museum's Beaux Arts support group, according to the museum. The museum still encourages everyone, members included, to reserve a timed ticket. Google lists it open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, closed Sunday to Tuesday, and the museum adds that galleries are cleared 15 minutes before closing. It rates 4.6 from about 390 Google reviews.
What hangs here
The Lowe opened in 1950 as the first art museum in South Florida and now holds more than 19,250 objects. In 1961 it became a home for Renaissance and Baroque paintings from the Samuel H. Kress Collection, and a 1956 gift from Alfred I. Barton started its Native American holdings, now shown in the Barton Wing. There are also Greco-Roman antiquities, works from Africa, Asia and Latin America, and a large glass collection in the Palley Pavilion.
Getting onto campus
The museum sits on the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables, not in central Miami. The museum calls the Pavia Garage the most guaranteed place to find a space, so head there first rather than circling campus lots. Without a car, Metrorail's University station is the nearest stop. A visit takes an hour or two, so it fits easily into a Coral Gables afternoon.
