Best for couples who want a spa weekend a causeway away from South Beach's noise. The catch: the hydrotherapy perks are built around staying the night, and kids or anyone under 18 can't stay.
The hydrotherapy circuit
The pitch here is bathing, not beds. The Standard calls itself an adults-only spa with guest rooms, and the heart of it is an indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy area with a waterfall hot tub, an arctic plunge and a main pool on the Biscayne Bay side. It's complimentary if you're staying. The spa leans into communal bathing rituals and hosts yoga sessions, with a gym, a nail salon and treatments on top. It sits on Belle Isle in the Venetian Islands, so South Beach is close but its noise isn't. It holds 4.5 from about 2,700 Google reviews.
Which room to book
Rooms run from the 230-square-foot Standard Medium on the second floor to the 555-square-foot Bay View Suite, which has a claw-foot tub and a wraparound terrace over the bay. The rooms worth the upgrade are the Bath Terraces: a private, curtained terrace with your own soaking tub. Garden rooms put you on the ground floor, steps from the hydrotherapy area. The Bath Extra Large has a four-person jacuzzi on its terrace, which tells you exactly who it's built for. Every room gets a rain shower, a daybed and hooded robes, and stays of seven nights or more come with a discount offer.
Eating on the bay
Lido Bayside Grill is the main restaurant, open 8 am to midnight, with dinner until a 10:45 pm last call, weekend brunch until 4:45 pm and happy hour Monday to Thursday from 4 to 6 pm. Monterrey Bar is the small indoor bar, open 5 pm to midnight every day, and Café Standard handles 7 am to 5 pm. Belle, the newest spot, is for hotel guests and members only. The lobby hosts talks, readings and pop-ups, and the shop stocks bikinis, bronzer and board shorts if you packed light.
