Miami in June: the wettest month on the books, the start of hurricane season, and mango time
June in Miami means highs near 89 to 90 degrees, the most rain of any month and the first weeks of hurricane season. Here is how to plan around it.
En corto
- Daytime: Average highs climb from 88°F on June 1 to 90°F by June 30.
- Night: Average lows of 75 to 77°F; no jacket needed.
- Rain: About 10.5 inches at the airport: the wettest month in the 1991-2020 normals.
- Storms: Hurricane season starts June 1; mid-May to early July is the stormiest stretch.
- Fruit: Florida mango season runs roughly May to October, per Fairchild.
June is a good month for Miami if you plan mornings outside and afternoons indoors: it is hot, the rain arrives most days in short heavy bursts, and hurricane season has started but its busy weeks are still months away.

Daily climate normals for 1991 to 2020 at Miami International Airport. Ranges run from the first to the last day of the month; rain is the sum of the daily normals. The same National Weather Service office puts the normal wet-season total for Miami Beach well below the airport's, because storms often build inland.

What June actually feels like
Hot and humid from the first day. Average highs sit at 88 to 90 degrees and nights barely drop below the mid 70s. The National Weather Service describes the South Florida wet season, which runs from May 15 to October 15, as a time of dew points in the 70s almost every day. In plain terms: the air feels heavy and your shirt sticks by 10 am.
June has the highest rain normal of any month at Miami International Airport, about 10.5 inches. That does not mean all-day rain. The weather service explains that the wet season brings near-daily showers and thunderstorms driven by sea breezes, and the exact spot changes from day to day. A beach morning followed by a short, heavy downpour later in the day is the typical pattern, not a washout.
The weather service also calls mid-May to early July the stormiest part of the wet season, when strong winds, lightning, hail and flooding are most likely. Its safety line is short: when thunder roars, go indoors. There is no safe place outside when a thunderstorm is in the area, and that includes the beach and the pool deck.
Hurricane season starts, but June is early
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. The National Hurricane Center puts the peak on September 10 and says most activity falls between mid-August and mid-October, so June sits at the quiet end of the season. Quiet is not zero: storms do form early, and a tropical system can soak South Florida in any month of the season.
What this means for a June trip: book refundable where you can, keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center's outlook in the week before you fly, and look up your hotel's storm surge zone on Miami-Dade County's Know Your Zone map. The county evacuates by zone, based on a storm's track and surge, not on its category.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Fairchild says Florida mango season usually runs from May through October, and the garden runs an annual Mango Festival with hundreds of varieties on display, tastings and a mango market.
The 2026 festival was held on Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, 2026, from 10 am to 5 pm. Earlier editions were in July. The 2027 date had not been announced when we checked in October 2026, so look at fairchildgarden.org in spring before you book around it.
Plan the day around the rain
| Beach day | Go in the morning; the sea-breeze storms usually build later in the day |
| Boat trip or jet ski | Book an early slot and ask the operator about its weather policy before you pay |
| Museums, shopping, long lunch | Keep them for the afternoon, when a storm is most likely |
| Rooftop dinner | Have a covered backup; lightning closes open decks |
| Swim Week fans | It has moved to late May: Paraiso Miami Swim Week ran May 28 to 31, 2026 |
Antes de ir
- A small umbrella or a light rain shell; short heavy showers are normal
- Shoes that can get wet: streets flood briefly after a downpour
- Sunscreen and water; the weather service lists heat as a chronic summer hazard
- Swim only at guarded beaches and check the flag at the lifeguard stand
- Check the National Hurricane Center outlook before you fly and look up your hotel's storm surge zone
- Plan indoor options for every afternoon so a storm does not end the day
