Sunny Isles is a quiet beach town rather than a nightlife strip: spend the morning on the pier and the sand, the afternoon at a park or in the mangroves at Oleta, and use the free city bus to skip the parking meters.

Hora a hora

  1. 7 amNewport Fishing Pier · On Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday the pier opens at 7 am; on Monday, Wednesday and Friday it opens at noon. Walking it is free for everyone.
  2. 9 amThe beach at Samson Oceanfront Park · A 2.1-acre oceanfront park at 17425 Collins Ave with a lifeguard station, showers, restrooms, a playground and sand volleyball.
  3. NoonLunch and shade · Collins Avenue has the restaurants; the parks forbid grilling, glass and alcohol, so a picnic means sandwiches and plastic bottles.
  4. 2 pmHeritage Park or Oleta River · Kids go to Heritage Park's splash pad; adults with energy rent a bike or kayak at Oleta River State Park.
  5. 6 pmBack to the pier · The pier stays open until 9 pm every day, so an evening walk over the water is the easy way to end the day.

The Newport Fishing Pier

The pier at 16501 Collins Ave, where Sunny Isles Boulevard meets Collins, is the town's landmark. The city's page lists it open 7 am to 9 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 9 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Restrooms are open daily 7:30 am to 8:30 pm.

Walking the pier is free. Fishing costs $10 for non-residents and is free for holders of a Sunny Isles Beach resident ID. Anglers must stay east of the yellow line, with a three-rod limit, and cannot fish within 100 feet of sea turtles. Shoes are required; bikes, scooters, pets and alcohol are not allowed, and nobody jumps or dives off the pier.

Parking right at the pier, in Pier Park, has only 23 unrestricted metered spaces, enforced around the clock. Come by bus or walk from your hotel if you can.
