Good for anyone wandering the Design District who likes architecture and a strong photo. It's one sculpture, not a destination: pair it with lunch, shopping or the district's public art tour.

The sphere

Google sums it up as a striking, ultramodern sphere, and that's the right way in: this is a Buckminster Fuller dome set down among the fashion houses of the Design District. It holds a 4.7 from about 220 Google reviews, which is high praise for something you mostly walk around and look at. Plan on a short stop rather than an afternoon. Circle it, take your photos, look at how it plays against the glass storefronts nearby, then move on. It reads best as the start of a walk through the district, not the whole reason to drive over.

What's around it

The sphere is surrounded by upscale shops and restaurants, so the real plan is everything nearby. The district lists names like Hermès, Ralph Lauren and Alaïa for shopping, and MC Kitchen, Mandolin Aegean Bistro and Michael's Genuine for eating, plus a Michelin guide to the neighborhood's starred spots. It's also an art district: other public pieces sit within walking distance. The district runs free-to-RSVP Public Art Tours, with dates listed on November 7 and November 21, which is the easiest way to see the dome in context with the rest.

Parking, restrooms, the dog

The dome shares its address with the Palm Court garage, so parking is easy. Garages charge $3 for up to four hours, $6 for four to six, and $25 for the day. Valet runs $5, $10 and $40. It's all contactless: your plate gets scanned on the way in and you pay on the way out. Public restrooms are on the second floor of Palm Court and Paradise Plaza, and dogs are welcome throughout the district. We don't have set hours for the dome itself. District shops keep 11 am to 8 pm Monday to Saturday and noon to 6 pm Sunday.

Parqueo

Park in the Palm Court garage at the same address: $3 covers up to four hours, and your plate is scanned so you pay on exit.

Reservas

The district's Public Art Tours on November 7 and November 21 need an RSVP.
