Good for certified divers who want shallow reefs and a real wreck close to town, and for first-timers trying Discover Scuba. The trade-off: it's a long drive out to the key, and the best-known wreck needs an Advanced card.

Reefs, wrecks and depths

The site list is unusually clear about depth. Biscayne National Park and Emerald Reef top out around 30 feet, Neptune Memorial Reef, with its coral-covered ruins, sits at 45, and Wreck Trek reaches 60, all fine on an Open Water card. The Proteus, a 220-foot steel freighter at 72 feet, needs Advanced Open Water. The shop says it's the only operator allowed into the northern quadrant of Biscayne National Park, and that's the trip it pushes hardest. Sites are about 30 minutes by boat from the dock, so you're not burning half the morning in transit.

The boats

Two custom Newton dive boats leave from the shop's own dock, so there's no shuttle and no second meeting point. Each has a bathroom, heated showers, shade, a dry bag area and an upper deck for the surface interval, with water and refreshments included. They're wide-beamed and open, built for easy entries and exits, and the shop notes that crews from National Geographic and CNN have used them. Bring your own gear if you have it; with the boats docked on-site, it's easy to load. Boat and medical waivers are on the website, so fill them in before you show up.

No card yet

Discover Scuba is the no-certification option, a supervised first try for people who aren't sure they want a full course. From there the PADI ladder runs from Open Water and refreshers through Rescue, Nitrox, wreck, night and dozens of specialties, up to instructor training. Snorkel trips run too, and there's a swim school and youth programs for kids not ready for tanks. The family-run shop has been at it for more than 40 years and holds 4.7 from about 690 Google reviews. The office is open 9 am to 5 pm daily; confirm boat departure times when you book.

Lo que pregunta la gente

Do I need to be certified to dive with Diver's Paradise?

No. Their Discover Scuba program needs no certification, and they also run snorkel trips. Most listed reef sites need Open Water, while the Proteus wreck needs Advanced Open Water.

Where do Diver's Paradise boats leave from?

From the shop's own dock at 4000 Crandon Blvd on Key Biscayne. Search "Diver's Paradise" in your map app rather than the address, or you'll end up on the wrong side of the marina.

What are Diver's Paradise's hours?

The shop is open 9 am to 5 pm every day of the week.
