ICA Miami is the best free hour in the Design District: a serious contemporary collection in a metal-fronted building on NE 41st Street, a sculpture garden behind it, and no ticket line.

Why you go

Because it is a real museum with real ambition, and it is free. Painting, sculpture and installations across three floors, exhibitions that change often enough to come back for, and a garden behind the building where the sculptures sit among trees. It is a ten-minute stop or a two-hour one depending on what is up.

When to go

Wednesday to Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Weekday afternoons are quiet; Saturday is busier with shoppers taking a break from the stores a block away.

Know before you go

Free admission, but reserve a timed slot on the website on busy weekends. The address is 61 NE 41st Street. The Design District garages are the parking; the museum sits right off the main pedestrian blocks.

Cómo llegar

1. No Metromover or Metrorail stop within walking distance; the nearest is Allapattah (Metrorail), about 2.2 km away, so plan on a bus, a ride or a car. Metrobus (route 202) stops at NE 39 ST@NE MIAMI CT, 2 minutes away. Parking, according to Google: a paid garage, a paid lot, a free lot, paid street parking and free street parking.
