For a birthday, an anniversary or a night you want to feel like an event. It's $$$, the night is scripted around an 8:30 pm show, and you'll need to dress the part.

There is no stage

The cast enters through the same door you did, and the show happens between the tables, not in front of them. The dining room runs on two levels around an open center, about 140 covers, with every table angled toward the same point. It's a resident cabaret, Thursday to Sunday, one show a night at 8:30 pm: House of Desire on Thursdays, Havana Night on Fridays, The Grand Cabaret on Saturdays. The site mentions four shows, so check what Sunday brings. It holds 4.8 from about 510 Google reviews, which is high for a place this theatrical.

Five courses, Bangkok to Havana

Dinner is the first act. The kitchen is Latin-Asian, served as five courses, and opens at 5 pm, well before the curtain. The booking page suggests sitting down around 7 pm so you're settled when the show starts. Wednesdays bring the chef's series at the counter, including a whole bluefin tuna cut live: akami, chu-toro and o-toro served straight off the loin, listed at $150 per person with seating from 8 pm. Dinner and show book together on OpenTable, and anything over eight people goes through the phone.

After 11 on Ocean Drive

Once the show ends, the Mekong bar takes over under its own neon. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays there's a DJ from 11 pm, which is the part of the night that turns into a lounge. Google lists closing at midnight Thursday through Saturday and 11 pm other nights, so this is a late dinner more than a late club. Behind the original 1930 facade, the hotel sat shut for twenty years, and the inside looks nothing like the street view suggests.
