La Colada Gourmet is the Little Havana coffee stop that takes the cafecito seriously: Cuban coffee and pastries at the counter, a few things to eat, and a spot right on the main Calle Ocho block.

Why you go

Because the colada, the little cup of sweet Cuban espresso meant to be shared, is the neighborhood's handshake, and this is a place that makes it well and sells the beans to take home. There is Cuban food and pastry too, but you come for the coffee and stay for the street.

When to go

Any time from 10 am to 10 pm, every day. Late afternoon pairs with a walk past Domino Park and the cigar shops next door. It is a counter place, so there is rarely a wait of more than a few minutes.

$ and cash is handy. The address is 1518 SW 8th Street, a few doors from Ball & Chain and Domino Park. Ask for a colada if you are with people and a cortadito if you are alone.

1. No Metromover or Metrorail stop within walking distance; the nearest is Vizcaya (Metrorail), about 1.9 km away, so plan on a bus, a ride or a car. The free trolley stops at Southwest 8th Street & Southwest 15th Avenue, 1 minute away. Parking, according to Google: paid street parking.
