Good for a slow brunch or an easy dinner with European comfort food, plus groceries to take home. The trade-off: nothing before 10 am, and with no reachable menu you'll be ordering on the staff's word.

Part cafe, part shop

Google files LAVKA under so many types it reads like a tiny strip mall: Eastern European restaurant, breakfast spot, pizza place, grocery store and florist. That mix is the point. It's a sit-down cafe for brunch and coffee that also sells gourmet food to carry out, and apparently flowers too. We couldn't pull a menu, so we won't pretend to know the house dish. Expect European comfort food at $$ prices, and ask what's good today before you order.

Brunch starts at ten

Doors open at 10 am every day, so this is a late-breakfast place, not a 7 am espresso stop before work. It stays open until 10 pm Sunday through Thursday and until 11:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. That means the same table works for a weekday lunch, a lazy weekend brunch or a dinner after a long day in Brickell. The long hours make the shop side useful too: you can grab groceries or a bouquet on the way home at 9 pm.

The neighborhood regular

LAVKA holds a 4.7 from about 540 Google reviews, a strong score for a small place that isn't chasing tourists. It sits on SW 1st Court, a side street on the west side of Brickell rather than on the main avenue. The price level is $$, so brunch for two lands in moderate territory. It reads like a spot locals return to more than a destination, though it's worth the detour if you miss Eastern European food or want a cafe that isn't another chain.
