Best for a long Sunday brunch or an easy grill dinner in the Grove. The food is solid hotel-restaurant fare at $$ prices, but the 18% service charge and cashless rule make the bill a little steeper than the menu suggests.

Sunday, 11 to 3

Brunch is the reason most people book. The sweet side gets the attention: Coconut French Toast with rum-roasted pineapple and passion fruit custard, or Key Lime Pancakes with key lime curd and graham cracker crumble, both $18. Savory orders lean heavy, like the Brunch Burger with a sunny egg ($27), Picanha & Eggs ($28) and Broken Eggs with jamón and truffled crème fraîche ($26). The Mayfair Mimosa is $6, which is rare for a Grove hotel. Live music runs 11 am to 2 pm, so plan on lingering. Google also lists Saturday daytime hours, but the site only advertises brunch on Sunday, so check before you go.

Off the wood fire

Dinner runs Tuesday to Saturday, from 5 pm until 10 pm midweek and 11 pm on Friday and Saturday. The grill section is the core of the menu: Angus skirt steak with chimichurri rojo, wagyu picanha with a Florida citrus reduction, Ora King salmon in key lime butter, and prawns in Calabrian chili butter. The starters are worth sharing, especially the black truffle and potato croquetas, the bacon-wrapped dates and the 'Gandules' hummus with malanga chips. Through October 31 there's a $65 three-course Miami Spice menu. Chef Jorge Rivera Parrilla runs the kitchen, and the Miami touches show up most in the sauces and sides, like tostones with salsa verde.

Happy hour and the bill

Happy hour is Tuesday to Saturday, 5 to 7 pm, with $5 beer, $10 house wine, cocktails and light bites, at the bar or out in the hotel gardens. That's the cheapest way to try the place on a weeknight. Two things show up when the check comes: the whole Mayfair House property is cashless, and an 18% service charge is added automatically and goes to a shared tip pool. Factor that into the $$ price level. It rates 4.7 from about 440 Google reviews, which is a good sign for a restaurant that could easily get by on hotel guests alone.
