The Miami Beach Boardwalk is for walkers and runners who want miles of ocean views without traffic; the trade-off is no shade and little to buy along the way, so it is a walk, not a destination.

Why you go

You come to walk or run with the ocean beside you. The boardwalk follows the dune line behind the hotels and condos of Mid Beach, with beach access points every few blocks and views of the water the whole way. It is flat, car-free and easy to join at any cross street. It rates 4.7 from 1,072 Google reviews, mostly from people who used it for a morning walk.

When to go

Sunrise is the time: the light comes up over the ocean, it is cool, and the regulars are out running. Mid-morning is still comfortable. Midday in summer is hot, with almost no shade on the path. Late afternoon the hotel towers start to shade it, and it gets busy again with an evening walk crowd. Our data has no posted hours.

Know before you go

Bring water and a hat, since there are few places to buy anything right on the path. You can join from most cross streets between Collins Park and Mid Beach, and parking is metered on the streets and in city lots. Collins Park at 21st Street is a natural start, and South Beach is south of there for food. Bikes and scooters should check posted signs, since rules differ by section.
