For a splashy South Beach afternoon with a group or a birthday to mark, it delivers sand, music and the Sushi Boat. The trade-off is $$$$ pricing and an early close, 6 or 7 pm depending on the day.

Lounge chairs or the sand

Nikki Beach has held the southern tip of Ocean Drive since 1998, at the quieter South of Fifth end of South Beach, and it still runs as a daytime club. The beach side opens daily at 11 am and wraps at 6 pm, with full food and drink service brought to your lounge chair. Prefer a proper table? The restaurant seats you with your feet in the sand. When the afternoon heat gets brutal, the indoor room called Summer House is the retreat. There's also a bar and a small boutique, open noon to 5. Expect music and $$$$ pricing on everything.

Order the Sushi Boat

The Sushi Boat is the house signature, and it's the dish the place is known for. Beyond it, the lunch menu leans coastal and shareable: the sexy salad with lobster, shrimp and crab, tempura shrimp tacos with mango jicama slaw, calamari fritto, shrimp and octopus al ajillo, and a Greek platter with falafel and dolmas. There's pinsa too, plus a raw bar where oysters come six at a minimum. Executive Chef Frank Ferreiro runs the kitchen. This is beach food priced for the setting, so budget for the view as much as the plate.

Sundays run longest

Sunday is the big day. Amazing Sundays brunch runs 11 am to 4 pm, then an after-brunch menu carries things until 7. Friday and Saturday the restaurant also stays open until 7, while Monday through Thursday it closes at 6. There's no night service, so treat it as a long lunch that turns into a party, then head somewhere else for dinner. It holds a 4.2 from about 7,200 Google reviews, a solid score for a place where the bill is part of the conversation.
