Joe's Stone Crab: the classic

Joe's is at 11 Washington Ave, at the southern end of South Beach. Dinner runs 5 to 10 pm Sunday to Thursday and 5 to 11 pm Friday and Saturday; lunch is Wednesday to Sunday, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. The bar opens at 11 am Wednesday to Sunday and at 4:30 pm Monday and Tuesday. Book through OpenTable from its site.

If you do not want the dining room, Joe's Take Away next door is open daily from 11:30 am to 9 pm with the same claw prices. That is the best way to eat stone crab on a budget at Joe's: take claws, mustard sauce and a slice of key lime pie to South Pointe Park, a short walk away.

How much should stone crabs cost

Stone crab is priced by claw size, and the bigger the claw, the more meat per crack. Restaurants charge per order; fish markets charge by weight at market price. Prices for the 2026-27 season had not been widely reported by late October, so treat Joe's menu as the reference point and ask any market for the day's price per pound before you order.

Do not rely on last season's numbers from news stories. Market prices are set by the day's catch, so call ahead, and at a restaurant ask how many claws come in an order of each size before you choose.
