James L. Knight Center

A 4,609-seat downtown theater beside the Hyatt Regency that books Latin pop, comedy tours and the odd science lecture.

Worth it when your act is on the bill, especially for the Spanish-language concerts and comedy it books often. It's a convention-complex room, not a cozy one, so you're here for the show, not the building.

Who's on the bill

The calendar leans heavily Spanish-language, and that's its strength. This fall, the Hablando Huevadas comedy tour plays October 31 at 8 pm, Dante Gebel is on November 19, La Mafia takes November 21 and Pimpinela closes the run on November 22. Then there's the curveball: physicist Professor Brian Cox on November 20 at 7:30 pm. Mujer Verdadera fills two daytime slots, November 13 and 14, 9 am to 5 pm. Most shows start at 8 pm. There are no regular opening hours to speak of, so go by the event listing and check before heading over.

The room itself

The theater seats up to 4,609, which puts it between a club and an arena. The venue promises good acoustics and unobstructed views, and 4.3 from about 3,400 Google reviews suggests most people leave satisfied. It's also part of a larger convention and meeting complex run by Legends Global, with the Ashe Auditorium, a lecture hall and riverfront space in the same orbit. That means the building feels more functional than glamorous. For a night out, pair the show with dinner nearby in Brickell or along the river rather than counting on the venue for atmosphere.

Parking, train and tickets

Driving is easy by downtown standards. The Miami Tower garage, run by the Miami Parking Authority with over 1,000 spaces, connects to the venue through a glass-enclosed walkway, and there's a flat lot next to the tower too. Skipping the car is easier still: the free Metromover stops at Knight Center station. Tickets go through Ticketmaster, and the box office only opens on event days, so don't plan a walk-up purchase on a random Tuesday. For box office questions, email the box office team listed on the venue's site or call the main line.
