Go here for gelato after dinner or after the bars in Brickell, especially late. The trade-off: it's a franchise of an Italian brand, so it's polished and consistent rather than a one-off local shop.

The flavors to order

Four flavors carry the brand's Taste Award medals, so start there. Variegato Amarena, swirled with sour cherry, is the top scorer with three stars and a Crystal Taste Award. The others are variegato albicocca del Vesuvio (apricot from the Vesuvius area), Variegato Pistacchio Crunch and a plain Nocciola, the hazelnut that tells you whether a gelato shop is serious. The brand describes the rest of the case as a mix of classic and newer flavors, all made in-house. Pair the amarena with the nocciola if you can't decide. The 4.8 from about 1,600 Google reviews suggests most people leave happy.

After midnight

Friday and Saturday it stays open until 3 am, and Monday, Wednesday and Sunday until 2 am. That makes it one of the easier sweet stops in Brickell once the restaurants on South Miami Avenue start closing. Tuesday and Thursday are the exceptions: it closes at midnight, so don't plan a 1 am cone those nights. Every day it opens at noon, which covers a lunch-break scoop too. Late hours mean late crowds, so expect a line on weekend nights when the neighborhood empties out of bars at once.

Beyond the cup

Warm things are made in front of you here: crepes, waffles, pancakes and cones in several styles, including cocoa, black and white, and nut-crusted. The brand also lists banana split in a waffle shell, brioche, milkshakes, granita and crema del nonno, a creamy custard-style dessert. Semifreddi come as cakes, single portions, mini glasses and sticks, easy to take on a walk. Coffee goes past espresso into hazelnut, chocolate, white chocolate and caramel versions, plus latte macchiato. If you need a birthday cake, the brand says to order it at your nearest store.
