For a proper cocktail and real food on Coral Way without a Brickell scene. The trade-off: dinner adds up fast at full price, so time it for happy hour if you're watching the tab.

What to drink

The House Gibson is the one to order: gin or vodka, vermouth, sherry and cocktail onions, $17 on the regular list. The rest of the cocktails lean bright and a little playful, like the Jazz Room G&T with grapefruit or the Daily Bread, which is bourbon with banana, walnut and chocolate. Mezcal drinkers get the No. 9 and the Oaxacanite. Wine by the glass runs mostly Spain and France, $11 to $16, and the drafts include La Tropical and Guinness. The room pitches itself as light enough for an after-work drink and dark enough for a nightcap, and the $$ price level fits that middle ground.

The kitchen

Bone marrow with buttermilk biscuits, baked oysters, a Guinness rarebit: the small plates read like a chef's bar, not a pub. The burger is a $23 double smash with American cheese and fries. Going bigger, the Tamal en Cazuela comes with foie gras and crispy duck chicharron for $36, and there's fish and chips or a shrimp andouille étouffée. Save room for the signature flan, which also carries foie gras, plus rum-soaked figs, at $12. The kitchen runs 5 to 11 pm Wednesday through Saturday and closes at 9 pm on Sunday, so a late Sunday dinner won't happen.

Happy hour, twice

Two windows matter here. From 5 to 7 pm, Wednesday through Sunday, the bar does $10 cocktails (House Gibson, espresso martini, Torero), $1.50 grilled oysters, an $8 single smash burger and $8 charcuterie. Thursday to Saturday it runs again from 11 pm to 1 am, with a bacon and onion jam hot dog and a pâté melt on the late menu. The bar stays open until 2 am Friday and Saturday and until midnight Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. It's closed Monday and Tuesday. It holds a 4.4 from about 260 Google reviews.
