El Rey De Las Fritas
A frita is Miami's own burger: a seasoned patty on Cuban bread, piled with thin, crunchy potato sticks. El Rey de las Fritas makes La Original Frita Cubana, the Frita Especial, the Frita a Caballo with an egg and the Frita Suprema.
Its site lists four shops: Calle 8, Hialeah, Flagler and Bird Road. It does not publish prices or hours online, so call the Calle Ocho shop or check its listing before you go. Its site carries a 2025 copyright and live ordering links.
Sanguich
A small Calle Ocho shop for pressed Cuban sandwiches: the Cubano, pan con lechón, media noche, croqueta preparada, pan con bistec and a Miami Vice, plus ham croquetas, batidos and Cuban coffee.
The Calle Ocho shop is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm. There are also counters at Bayside Marketplace (10 am to 9 pm daily), in Coral Gables and Little Haiti, and at Aventura Mall. Prices are not on its menu page; check the ordering page before you go.
Coyo Taco
Orders come as two tacos: al pastor and pollo al carbón are $10, carne asada $11.50, camarón, pescado and beef birria $12, and the coliflor and plantain tacos $9. A single ribeye taco is $8. Burritos run $15 to $17.
The restaurant opens at 11 am and stays open to 2 am Monday to Wednesday and 3 am Thursday to Sunday, with a lounge from 9 pm.
Versailles Restaurant Cuban Cuisine
Not the cheapest plate in town, but one of the best-value sit-down meals, with long hours: 8 am to midnight Monday to Thursday, 8 am to 1 am Friday and Saturday, 9 am to midnight on Sunday.
The ventanita outside is where Miami stands for a cafecito. The menu online lists its breakfasts and sandwiches without prices; the grilled palomilla steak was the one dish priced there, at $12.95 and $14.50.

How to eat cheaply in Miami
Go west and north of the beach. The cheapest good food is on Calle Ocho in Little Havana, in Doral's Venezuelan bakeries and arepa bars, and in Wynwood's taco and sandwich counters. Miami Beach has cheap spots too, like La Sandwicherie on 14th Street, but on the beach always read the posted menu before you sit down.
Eat at the counter. Cuban places often have a ventanita, a street window, for coffee, pastelitos and croquetas, and a full dining room for plates. The window is quicker and cheaper.
Read the bill before you tip. If a service charge is already on it, you do not need to add a full tip on top.
