The short version

  • City garages: Courthouse Center, College Station and the James L. Knight Center garage, run by the MPA.
  • Cheapest short stop: Park and Shop: up to three hours for $1 with a merchant validation.
  • Street meters: Rates vary by block; pay with PayByPhone or ParkMobile using the posted zone.
  • Park outside, ride in: Metrorail garages: $4.50 a day for riders, then the free Metromover.
  • Event nights: Lots next to Kaseya Center are gone; book ahead or take the train.

For a few hours downtown, use a Miami Parking Authority garage and ask your shop or restaurant for a Park and Shop validation; for a full day or an event, park at a Metrorail station and let the free Metromover do the last mile.

The MPA does not publish one downtown hourly rate that we could open, and its garage pages refused automated access, so the facts here come from the MPA page text as shown in search results. Check the posted rate at the garage entrance before you pull in.

Park and Shop: three hours for $1

The best-value parking downtown is a city program most visitors never hear about. Shop or eat at a participating downtown business between 9 am and 9 pm, any day of the week, and ask for a Park and Shop validation coupon. It covers up to three hours in any of the MPA's downtown garages for a flat $1.

Two conditions: the merchant has to take part, so ask before you order, and the program does not apply during special events. On a Heat night or a big concert, expect the garage's event pricing instead.

Street meters and the apps

On-street rates in the City of Miami vary by location, so there is no single downtown price to quote. Every metered block has a zone number on its sign. PayByPhone and ParkMobile both use those same numbers, and the app shows the total before you confirm.

City of Miami residents get up to 50 percent off on-street parking through either app if the car is registered in the city; visitors pay the posted rate. Maximum stays and hours also change from block to block, so read the pole, not a website.

Park outside downtown and ride in

Downtown is one of the few places in Miami where the train beats the car. Miami-Dade Transit sells daily parking at most Metrorail stations for $4.50 at the ticket machine or $4.85 through PayByPhone, and you must ride Metrorail or Metrobus to use it. Brickell and Government Center have no station parking. Overnight parking is allowed only at the Earlington Heights, Okeechobee and South Miami garages, for an extra fee.

Metrorail costs $2.25 and runs 5 am to midnight. Downtown, switch to the Metromover: it is free, has 21 stations on three loops (Omni, Inner and Brickell), runs 5:30 am to 10 pm, and comes every 90 seconds at rush hour and every three minutes otherwise. Note that Financial District station is closed for five weeks from Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Metrobus Park and Ride lots are free, but overnight parking is not allowed there.
