When it is the ER, not urgent care
Call 911 for anything that could be life-threatening. On Miami Beach, Mount Sinai Medical Center at 4300 Alton Road runs an Emergency Center that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; the ER line is 305-674-2200.
For major injuries, Jackson describes its Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial as an adult and pediatric Level I trauma center. In a real emergency you do not pick the hospital yourself: call 911 and the paramedics decide.
Jackson and UHealth both say an urgent care visit costs less than the ER, and the clinics above treat the usual travel complaints. The trade is that urgent care cannot admit you, so a clinic will send you on to a hospital if it finds something serious.
Before you go
- Bring your passport or ID and your insurance or travel insurance card
- Call your travel insurer first if your policy requires approval before a visit
- Ask for an itemized receipt and the diagnosis codes for your claim
- Bring a list of your medicines and allergies
- For a child, check the clinic's minimum age; MD Now sees children from 3 months
- Start online check-in where the clinic offers it, then walk in
