Good for a first night in South Beach when you want Cuban food and a mojito without leaving Ocean Drive. The trade-off is the strip itself: it's a tourist stretch, and the setting is part of what you're paying for.

What to order

Lechón and ropa vieja are the two plates the restaurant puts up front, so start there. The Cuban sandwich gets its own billing on the menu as the famous one, which makes it the easy lunch pick. Add a mojito if it's evening, or a Cuban coffee if it isn't. The house pitch is traditional Cuban cooking with a modern twist, so don't expect a strict Little Havana counter. Prices sit at $$, reasonable for a table on Ocean Drive, where plenty of neighbors charge more for less.

From cafecito to midnight

Google lists it open at 8 am every day, until 11:45 pm Sunday through Thursday and until 12:45 am on Friday and Saturday. That long run makes it useful twice in a day: coffee and breakfast before the beach, then a late plate after everything else on the strip has turned into a club. The restaurant's own site posts later hours, opening at 9 am and running to 12:30 am, or 1:30 am on weekends, so check before you show up at either end of the day.

For a weekend dinner or a group, reserve rather than gamble on walking up. Breakfast and weekday afternoons should be easier to walk into.
