For couples who want an old Miami mansion and garden in the Grove with the whole place to themselves. The trade-off: one mandatory caterer, an approved-only music list and an 11 pm curfew.

The house and the garden

Walter De Garmo designed this Mediterranean-Renaissance mansion on South Bayshore Drive in Coconut Grove, with Spanish archways, Cuban craftsmanship and a garden under oak trees wrapped in string lights. It isn't a place you drop into. It's a private venue that books one event a day, so whoever rents it gets the whole property. It seats 225 for a dinner reception. Dancing happens in the loggia on its existing floor, so there's no dance floor to rent. Google gives it 4.7 from about 300 reviews, mostly from couples and their guests.

What the package covers

Bill Hansen Catering is the only caterer allowed, and the package includes round tables, linens, chiavari chairs in any color, flatware and glassware. Florals aren't included, though the team hands over a vendor list. You can bring your own planner, photographer, florist, baker, bar company and hair and makeup people. Music is the exception: DJs and bands must come from the approved list. Valet is included. The upstairs bridal suite holds eight, has its own bathroom and a terrace over the courtyard, and opens at 10 AM on event day. Earlier access costs extra.

Dates, money and the fine print

Saturdays cost the most. Fridays and Sundays get better rates and minimums, and June through September brings off-season pricing, which in Miami also means heat and afternoon storms. The rain plan is a tent, decided 2 to 4 days out. The party ends at an 11 pm curfew. Smokers get the pergola near the front entrance only, pets can join the ceremony but not the reception, and only the first floor is wheelchair accessible. There's no lodging on site; the venue partners with Mr. C Coconut Grove nearby.

Come arrivare

1. Shuttles over 34 feet (about 30 seats) can't use the narrow driveways and must drop guests on South Bayshore Drive by the entrance.
