A 1914 bayfront villa with formal gardens, grottos and a stone barge, the most beautiful morning in Miami.

Vizcaya is the one museum in Miami you should not skip: a 1914 Italianate mansion on Biscayne Bay, gardens that take an hour on their own, and the stone barge in the water that every photographer in the city has shot at least once.
Why you go
Because it is unlike anything else in a city built in the last fifty years. The villa was finished around 1914 for an industrialist with a taste for Europe, and the rooms are still furnished. Outside, the formal gardens step down to the bay with fountains, grottos and sculptures, and the view from the terrace is the reason the house is here.
When to go
Right at 9:30 am when it opens, before the heat and the groups. Closed on Tuesday. Last entry is well before the 4:30 pm close, so afternoon visits should start by 3 pm. Weekends are the busiest.
