Baiablu
An Amalfi-leaning Italian spot on Commodore Plaza in Coconut Grove, built around seafood, crudo and handmade pasta.
Checked October 2026
Good for a dressed-up Grove dinner of lobster linguine and fritto misto. The trade-off: there's a real dress code, booking is by phone, and the seafood-heavy menu with caviar on it isn't a casual weeknight bowl of pasta.
Pasta first, then the sea
The menu leans Amalfi Coast, so seafood and handmade pasta do most of the work. Linguine all'aragosta comes with half a Maine lobster. The linguine alla Nerano, with baby zucchini and provolone del monaco, is the quieter Southern Italian classic worth ordering. Start with the fritto misto of calamari, shrimp, baby smelt and zucchini, or the mussels in a cherry tomato broth with garlic bread. Pear and gorgonzola agnolotti with black truffle is the rich one. For a splurge, the deluxe seafood platter for two brings oysters, langostinos and 10 grams of Osetra caviar. Chef Vincenzo Borriello runs the kitchen.
Mind the dress code
Hats, tank tops, flip-flops and athletic wear are on the house list of things to skip. The restaurant calls itself high-end casual, and it posts the rule right on its reservations page, so take it seriously. In practice that means dressing for dinner, not for the gym or the bayfront. Don't roll in straight from a run along the water. The upside is that the room stays a notch dressier than a lot of Commodore Plaza, which makes it an easy pick for an anniversary, a birthday or the night your parents are in town.
Booking and hours
Reservations go through the phone line, and private events are booked the same way. It opens at noon most days, except Tuesday, when doors open at 4 pm. Closing is 10 pm Monday through Thursday and 11 pm Friday through Sunday, though the restaurant's own site lists Sunday as a 10 pm close, so call ahead if you want a late Sunday table. It holds a 4.8 from about 410 Google reviews. There's also online ordering if you'd rather eat the cacio e pepe on your couch, no dress code required.
