Why you go
Because it is the greenest, calmest place in Miami that you can reach in half an hour. The tram tour covers the grounds if the heat is too much, the water features cool the walk, and the butterfly exhibit is the favorite with kids.
When to go
10 am to 5 pm every day. Arrive at opening, before the heat and the midday crowd. Weekday mornings are the calmest.
Know before you go
Admission is ticketed; check prices on the garden's website. It is on Old Cutler Road at the south end of Coral Gables, so you need a car or a rideshare. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen.
