Flamingo Park is South Beach's big neighborhood park, 36 acres on the residential side of the island, a few blocks back from the Ocean Drive crowds. If you're staying in South Beach and your hotel pool is the size of a bathtub, this is the obvious place to get a proper swim in. The park opens at 8 am, but pool sessions, lane rules and any entry fees are set by the city and weren't in what we checked, so look up the current pool schedule before you pack a towel.

Kids, games and timing

The playground is the draw for families staying nearby, since it gives kids room to run without a stroller full of sand. The baseball stadium and soccer field are there for organized play, so expect parts of the park to be taken over by games or practices at times. Hours are the same every day: 8 am to 8:30 pm. Mornings are the easiest time to be outside in Miami heat, and once the park closes, it's not an option for a late stroll.
