Kaona, The Hidden Tiki Room
A 45-seat tiki speakeasy hidden inside The Leinster Irish Pub in Edgewater, built around rum, smoke and ceramic mugs.
Checked October 2026
For a date or a small celebration with serious rum drinks, rated 4.8 from about 250 Google reviews. The trade-off: cocktails run $23 to $24, weekends sell out, and the door enforces a dress code.
Finding the door
The entrance sits inside The Leinster Irish Pub at 1600 NE 1st Ave, on the Edgewater edge of the Arts & Entertainment District, and the bar treats finding it as part of the night. There's no sign and no rope out front. Inside, the room is bamboo, carved tiki masks, amber light and a haze of dry ice, with a jazz-club lean rather than beach-party kitsch. It holds only 45 people, which is the point: it stays quiet enough to talk, and the bartenders have room to work with smoking vessels and flaming garnishes.
What to drink
Rum is the obsession here, with more than 50 expressions on the shelf, from funky Jamaican pot still to Martinique agricole and Demerara. Rum flights are on offer if you'd rather sip than drink something with a paper umbrella. The cocktail list runs $23 to $24: a Painkiller with Pusser's Navy Rum and fresh nutmeg, the Vicious Virgin #9 with homemade orgeat, Martinique rhum and a mezcal spray, and Akapulko Dayz, a white Negroni riff on Patrón Blanco. The Mai-Tai and Zombie are poured too, plus shareable bowls for groups. It's not a cheap round, so pace yourself.
Getting in on a Friday
Friday and Saturday nights sell out, and with 45 seats that's not just marketing. Book through SevenRooms, which the bar says takes under a minute, or call. Walk-ins get in when there's space, but entry is never guaranteed, even midweek. It's open Wednesday and Thursday from 6 pm to 1 am, Friday and Saturday until 2 am, and closed Sunday through Tuesday. Dress is smart casual: Hawaiian shirts are encouraged, flip flops are not, and the door can turn you away. For a birthday or work group, the whole room can be booked as a private event with group menus.
