Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park
A state park at the south tip of Key Biscayne with a long beach, sea grape shade and an 1825 lighthouse.

Bill Baggs is the best day-at-the-beach pick for families and first-timers who want nature, a lighthouse and calm water in one place; the trade-off is the drive over the causeway and a park entry fee per car.
Why you go
You get more than a beach. The sand is long and wide, backed by sea grapes and shade trees, and the Cape Florida Lighthouse, built in 1825, stands at the south end. There are trails, picnic areas, fishing along the seawall on the bay side, and views back to the downtown skyline from No Name Harbor. It rates 4.7 from more than 13,000 Google reviews, among the highest of any beach park around Miami.
When to go
Florida state parks open at 8 am and close at sundown, so a full day is easy to plan. Weekday mornings are quiet, with soft light and calm water. Weekends and holidays fill up, and the park can close the gate to new cars once it reaches capacity, so arrive early. Late afternoon at the bay side by No Name Harbor gives you sunset over Biscayne Bay and the skyline.
Know before you go
You reach it by the Rickenbacker Causeway, through Key Biscayne, to the end of Crandon Boulevard. The state park charges an entry fee per vehicle; check the Florida State Parks site for the current amount before you go. Bring water, shade and food, though there are concessions inside. Crandon Park, a few minutes north on the same road, has a wider, busier beach and county parking instead.
