Café Bastille is the South Beach brunch that locals actually line up for: French breakfast plates, pastries and juices at fair prices, in a room that turns tables fast enough that the wait is bearable.
Why you go
Because it does the French café thing properly and all morning: eggs, crepes, omelettes, croissants from the bakery counter, fresh juices and coffee. It is one of the most reviewed breakfast spots on the Beach, and the reason is simple consistency.
When to go
Open 8 am to 4 pm on weekdays and until 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Weekday mornings are easy. Weekend brunch between 10 am and 1 pm means a line out the door; go at 8 am or after 2 pm.
Know before you go
$$ and daytime only. The address is 538 Washington Avenue in the South of Fifth end of the Beach, a short walk from South Pointe Park, which makes it the right first stop before the beach.
