Cafe La Trova
Julio Cabrera's award-winning cantinero bar on Calle Ocho, with Cuban classic cocktails, live trova and Michelle Bernstein's food.
Checado em outubro de 2026
For anyone who wants a proper daiquiri with live Cuban music and a crowd. It's loud, it's $$$, and it's built for groups more than quiet conversation.
What to drink
Start with the Clásicos Cubanos list, the classics Julio Cabrera's cantineros built the bar's reputation on. The Daiquiri Clásico, Mojito Criollo and Canchanchara are $15 each; the Presidente, Hotel Nacional and Hemingway Special run $16. The frozen Mulata, rum with crème de cacao and cafecito syrup, is the playful pick. For a bit of theater, Julio's specials include the Trio Matamoros at $32: rum, a Cuban coffee and a cigar on a tray. Not drinking? Two mocktails sit at $10, and an $8 Hatuey or La Tropical is the cheapest way in. The bar has ranked on North America's 50 Best Bars every year from 2024 through 2026.
The music and the room
Live trova musicians play here, and the whole place leans retro Cuba, with cantineros working the bar in the old Havana style. That makes it loud and social, which is why it's known as a spot for large parties. Doors open at 4 pm every day. It runs until midnight Sunday through Thursday and until 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays, so a late weekend round after dinner elsewhere on Calle Ocho is easy. If you want to actually talk, go earlier. There's no published music schedule in what we checked, so call ahead if a specific set matters to you.
Dinner and the bill
Chef Michelle Bernstein, a James Beard winner and Miami native, runs the kitchen with a contemporary take on Cuban dishes. The site lists dinner, happy hour and Miami Spice menus, so there's a cheaper way to try it if you time it right. Expect $$$ overall: cocktails mostly $15 to $18, and a cellar list that climbs to a $400 bottle of Insignia if someone's celebrating. It holds 4.5 from about 4,100 Google reviews, which is strong for a place this busy. Reservations are taken, and private events are an option for big groups.
