For first-timers, birthdays and anyone who wants the Miami Beach classic done straight. The trade-off is the bill: claws run from $49.95 to $139.95 before a single side, and the room is big, loud and full.

The claws and the order

Stone crab claws arrive chilled, cracked and served with mustard sauce, priced by size: Medium $49.95, Select $64.95, Large $79.95, Jumbo $139.95. Most tables then add the Joe's Classic for $34.95 more, which brings cole slaw, hashed browns, creamed spinach and a slice of key lime pie. That's the whole ritual, and it's worth doing once. Florida's stone crab season runs October 15 to May 1, though the menu says claws are available year round. Peak season is when the room is fullest, so plan accordingly. Starters skew classic too: shrimp cocktail at $25.95, half a dozen East Coast oysters at $28.95, stone crab bisque at $14.95.

Eating well for less

The menu's best open secret is the fried half chicken, free range, at $14.95. It sits on a page where a 16oz NY strip costs $89.95, and plenty of regulars order it alongside a few claws to split. Joe's Burger is $21.95, stuffed with spinach and topped with mustard sauce and American cheese. Sides are generous and priced to share, like hashed browns from $13.95 or creamed spinach at $13.95. Save room for the key lime pie at $14.95; it's the dessert people mention most. A 4.5 from about 11,700 Google reviews says the formula still works for a very large crowd.

Lunch, dinner and Take Away

Dinner runs nightly from 5 pm, until 10 pm Sunday through Thursday and 11 pm on Friday and Saturday. Lunch is Wednesday through Sunday, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, and it's the easier way in if dinner feels like a production. Mondays and Tuesdays are dinner only. Next door in spirit, Joe's Take Away sells the signature items to go: claws, hash browns, slaw, creamed spinach, grilled tomatoes and pie, plus a Lobster Reuben, fried chicken, lobster rolls, wine, jumbo cookies and Joe's merch. Delivery and pickup orders go through DoorDash only.

Reservas

The restaurant's own site has a reservation form for parties from one to 8+, so book there rather than hoping to walk in.
