For a pasta-first dinner with some occasion to it. It's $$$$ and dinner only, and the kitchen wraps up by 9:30 most nights, so book ahead and don't plan a late start.

Order the Roman classics

Carbonara, all'Amatriciana, alla Gricia, al Burro and Arrabbiata: the menu leans on the Roman pasta canon, and pasta is what Chef Evan Funke built his name on. Start with the antipasti, which the restaurant calls hyper-seasonal, so expect the lineup to shift. The pizzas come out of a wood fire and are wafer-thin, better as something for the table than a meal on their own. Rome is the only reference point here, so don't expect risotto or a chicken parm. There are separate dessert, cocktail and wine menus if you want to stretch the night.

Booking and hours

Dinner is the only service. Doors open at 5:30 pm every night and close at 9:30 pm Sunday through Wednesday, 10:30 pm Thursday through Saturday. That's early for Miami, so a late booking on a weeknight is pushing it. Reservations go through the site, by phone at (305) 990-0022 or by email. The price level is $$$$, and pasta, pizza, wine and dessert add up fast. Through October 31 there's a $65 three-course Miami Spice dinner Sunday through Thursday, the cheapest way in. It sits at 4.4 from about 600 Google reviews: solid, not unanimous.

Bringing a crowd

A private dining room seats up to 32, and the whole restaurant can be booked for 200 at a sit-down dinner or 300 for a standing reception. Parties under 20 can book directly instead of going through the events team. This is the Miami outpost of a small group with rooms in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, so visitors may already know the name. For locals it's an easy call on NE 2nd Ave when a birthday or work dinner needs real pasta and a room big enough for everyone.
