South Pointe Park
The park at the tip of South Beach: cruise ships passing, a pier, grass, and the best free sunset on the Beach.

South Pointe Park is the one place in South Beach that costs nothing and gives you everything: the ocean on one side, Government Cut and the ships on the other, and a sunset you can watch from the grass.
Why you go
Because this is where the Beach ends and the view opens up. The park sits on the point where the Atlantic meets the shipping channel, so cruise ships slide past close enough to wave at. There is a pier for fishing and walking, a beach, a playground and splash pad for kids, and wide paths for a run or a bike.
When to go
The hour before sunset, when the light hits the Miami skyline across the water and half the neighborhood comes out with a towel. Mornings are quiet and cool. Weekend afternoons are busy with families and the splash pad is full.
Know before you go
Free, open from sunrise to late evening. Street and garage parking on Washington Avenue and the South of Fifth streets; it fills on weekends, so arrive early or walk from the Beach. South of Fifth has the restaurants for after.

- No Metromover or Metrorail stop within walking distance; the nearest is Bayfront Park (Metromover), about 5.3 km away, so plan on a bus, a ride or a car. Metrobus stops at South Pointe Drive & Washington Avenue, 3 minutes away. Parking, according to Google: a paid lot, paid street parking and free street parking.
