Discounts worth knowing
Most of Fairchild's discounts are in person only, so they work at the gate rather than online. College students aged 18 to 24 save $9 on the regular adult price with a student ID. AAA members save $2 on an adult ticket. If you arrive by walking, biking or public transit, the eco-discount takes $5 off an adult and $2 off a child, every day.
Active military and veterans get in free all year, and active first responders get 50% off. Miami-Dade seniors 62 and over with a Golden Ticket get one free admission on the first Wednesday of each month. Members can come in early on Tuesdays, from 7 am through the South Entrance Gate.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Fairchild opened in 1938 and covers 83 acres, per the City of Coral Gables. The collections focus on palms and cycads, orchids, mangos, arid plants and South Florida natives, with an arboretum and a Spiny Forest of Madagascar.
The butterfly exhibit rotates more than 40 species. It is a USDA-approved facility, so volunteers explain containment rules at the door, and strollers stay in stroller parking outside.
Matheson Hammock Park & Marina
A Miami-Dade County park a short drive down Old Cutler Road from Fairchild, with a lagoon known as the atoll pool that is open seven days a week, with lifeguards on weekends and holidays.
Parking is $7 plus tax for a car on weekdays and $10 plus tax on weekends and holidays, per the county. The lagoon's hours change between summer and winter and can close for water quality, so check the county page on the day.

Fall 2026 at Fairchild
The home page lists Let's Botanize Fairchild on November 8, a guided plant walk with botanists Ben Goulet-Scott and Jacob Suissa followed by a book signing. Holidays at Fairchild, A Very Merry Garden, runs November 13 to December 24, and the South Florida Palm Society Show & Sale is on November 28 and 29.
