Book it for a birthday, a closed deal or a serious wine night. The trade-off is plain: steaks run $59 to $375 before sides, and the dress code rules out shorts, even at the bar.

The steak list

The cheapest way into the steak list is the 8oz Stone Axe Wagyu flat iron at $59. The top is a 32oz Rosewood Ranch Wagyu porterhouse at $375. In between sit a 45-day dry-aged cowboy ribeye (22oz, $155), a prime filet at $78 and a Margaret River Wagyu tomahawk for $295. Sauces cost extra, from $6 chimichurri to a $35 foie gras Rossini topping. Not in a beef mood? Dover sole is $105, and the Lobster Fra Diavolo with a 1.5-pound Maine lobster is $85. Sides add up fast: rosemary fries are $14, lobster mac and cheese $42. The caviar chips and dip ($49) is the opener for a celebrating table.

The bar and the rooftop

Happy hour runs Monday 5 to 6 pm and Tuesday through Friday 4 to 6 pm in The Bar, which has its own menu: Chef Danny's double patty smash burger, a signature cacio e pepe and a rotating few dishes, with TVs for whatever game is on. It's the looser, cheaper way to try the place without committing to a tomahawk. Upstairs, D's Rooftop Bar & Grill runs its own events: cigar nights, a Friday family barbecue and college game nights on big screens. The wine list, led by Daniel Bishop, goes deep on Italian, French, Spanish and American vintages.

Hours and the dress code

Lunch is Tuesday through Friday, noon to 2:30 pm, and Sunday brunch runs 11:30 am to 3 pm. Dinner goes until 9:30 pm Monday through Thursday, 10:15 pm Friday and Saturday, and 9 pm Sunday. Saturday has no lunch; doors open at 4:30 pm. The dress code covers the bar too: no shorts of any kind, tank tops, flip-flops or baseball caps, and men can't wear open-toed sandals. Medical attire isn't allowed in the dining room, so change after the shift. A 4.9 from about 2,000 Google reviews says the room mostly delivers on the price.
