Deering Estate suits people who want a slow half day of history and nature on Biscayne Bay; the trade-off is the drive south and that the main Stone House is closed for restoration for now.
Why you go
You come for the setting: a 444-acre estate on Biscayne Bay built up by Charles Deering in the early 1900s, with Richmond Cottage, a royal palm grove, mangroves and pine rockland. Guided museum tours and nature tours run on set days, and kayaks and paddle boards can be rented at the point. It rates 4.7 from 2,123 Google reviews. Plan on two to three hours to walk the grounds properly.
When to go
Google lists it open every day from 10 am to 4 pm. The estate's own site says no admission after 4 pm and it closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mornings are cooler and better for birds and the bay light. Nature preserve tours run in the cooler months, roughly October through May. On rainy days much of the visit is outdoors, so pick a dry morning instead.
Know before you go
The estate's site lists adults 15 and up at $18 plus tax, seniors and military at $16, youth 4 to 14 at $10, and kids 3 and under free; parking is free. Tickets are sold online through Miami-Dade Park Link. The Stone House has been closed for restoration since April 2025, while the rest of the estate stays open. Bring bug spray and water. It is a short drive from Pinecrest and Coral Gables if you want lunch after.
