Ena’s secret bake

A small bakery and dessert shop on Hialeah Drive, open from late morning into the evening and rated highly by the locals who go.

For anyone in east Hialeah who wants something sweet after lunch or after dinner. The trade-off: there's no website or posted menu, so you're choosing from the case, not planning ahead.

Late-morning sweets

Doors open at 11 am every day, which tells you this isn't a dawn pastelito stop. It runs until 8 pm Sunday through Thursday and until 9 pm on Friday and Saturday, so it works better as an afternoon pick-me-up or a dessert run after dinner than as a breakfast plan. If you're used to Hialeah bakeries that open before sunrise, adjust your timing. The good news is the long evening window, which is rarer than you'd think for a shop this size.

The numbers back it up

It holds a 4.7 from about 1,500 Google reviews, which is a lot of people for a neighborhood bakery and a high score to keep across that many. Google files it as a bakery, a dessert shop and a confectionery, so expect sweets as the main event rather than a full savory counter. We don't have a confirmed menu or prices to share, so we won't guess at a signature item. Ratings like that usually mean regulars, and regulars usually mean the popular things sell out.

Ordering blind, sort of

There's no website to check, so the display case is your menu. Go in with an open mind, ask what came out fresh today, and let the counter steer you. If you need something specific, like a cake for an event, call or stop by ahead of time rather than counting on walk-in luck. The shop sits at 104 Hialeah Dr in the 33010 zip code, on the older east side of the city.
