Worth it when there's a concert, exhibition or gala you can actually get into, and a serious option if you're planning a big wedding or launch. The trade-off: it's an events building, not a place to wander into on a Tuesday.
The building
Rem Koolhaas and the OMA team designed it, with Shohei Shigematsu leading the project, and it reads as a deliberate landmark on this stretch of Collins. Inside there's 43,000 square feet of flexible space: two exhibit halls that can be combined into one room, five meeting rooms, and a 2,900-square-foot amphitheater in rose marble with built-in seating. It sits in the Faena District, across Collins from the Faena hotel. It holds 4.7 from about 380 Google reviews, which mostly reflects people who came for a specific event and liked the room.
Getting through the door
Google lists it as open 24 hours. Treat that as a listing quirk, not an invitation. The Forum hosts concerts, music and dance performances, visual art shows, conferences, launches and private parties, so access depends on whether something is on and whether you have a ticket or an invite. Check the Faena happenings calendar before heading over. When you do get in, there's a permanent bar and coat check in the amphitheater at the lobby entrance, which is handy on a rare cold night or during an Art Week crush.
Booking it for your own event
The Forum takes groups from 1 to 1,000, and the menu of uses is long: wedding ceremonies, receptions and after-parties, galas, corporate retreats, product unveilings, bar and bat mitzvahs, quinceañeras. You request a proposal, and there's a downloadable floorplan to plan the room. If 1,000 is overkill, the same team books smaller rooms around the district, like the gold-and-red Faena Theater for up to 300 or the Saxony Bar for up to 160. No prices are published, so expect a quote rather than a rate card.
