Good for a slow weekday breakfast or a healthy-ish lunch with the dog or the kids along. It's daytime only, closing at 4 pm, and plates in the low-to-mid $20s add up quickly.

Start with the arepas

The Colombian arepas are the family thing here: the owners, David and Sebastian Ochoa, say the recipe comes from their mother's side. Get them in the Huevos Pericos ($23), three scrambled eggs with tomato and green onion next to a cheese arepa, or order a side of three for $10. Breakfast runs weekdays from 8 am to noon. The lighter end is an açaí bowl or a coconut yogurt bowl at $16. The top of the menu is charcoal chimichurri skirt steak with eggs at $36. In between it's mostly egg bowls and sandwiches around $22 to $25.

Lunch is mostly bowls

From noon to 4 pm on weekdays, the menu shifts to salads, sandos and grain bowls. The ropa vieja bowl ($29) is the heartiest pick, with shredded beef, cilantro-lime rice, red beans and smashed fingerlings. The Okinawa purple sweet potato bowl ($25) is the most Flora-looking plate on the list. If you want comfort over greens, there's a truffle grilled cheese with tomato-fennel bisque for $24. Adding chicken to any salad costs $8. The site also lists a separate brunch menu, so check which one is running if you're going on a weekend.

The patio crowd

Flora has indoor seating with air conditioning and a covered patio surrounded by plants. Pets are welcome, which is why you'll see dogs under the tables. It's also easy with small kids: there are high chairs and baby changing stations in the restrooms. Vegan and gluten-free options are marked, and there's beer and wine if brunch calls for it. The dress code is none at all. It holds a 4.8 from about 700 Google reviews, which is a strong number for a place this casual. It's open every day from 8 am to 4 pm.
