For first-timers and groups who want to ride their own route past the sandbar and the islands, not follow a guide. The trade-off: it's not cheap once you add passengers, tax and fees, and the paperwork takes some planning.
The ride
The Haulover sandbar is 5 to 10 minutes from the marina, and from there your route can run past Bal Harbour, the Venetian Islands, Star Island and the Downtown skyline. Nobody rides behind you. After a safety briefing on starting, stopping and no-wake zones, you go on your own inside a GPS-monitored area. The GPS also caps your speed in no-wake zones, so you can't get a ticket. The fleet is six jet skis, and most guests are beginners, according to the company. It holds 5.0 from about 47 Google reviews, which is a small but clean record.
What it costs
One jet ski with one rider runs $189 for an hour, $349 for two hours (you get 2.5 on the water), $499 for three and $649 for a four-hour full day. Fuel, life vests, GPS and the briefing are included. A second rider is $30 more, and tax plus booking fees show up at checkout. You reserve with a $30 deposit for one to three jet skis, or 20% for four or more or a full day, and pay the rest at check-in. Expect a $150 refundable card hold that clears about five business days later. Groups can book up to six jet skis, and there's a 28 ft pontoon from $300 for two hours.
The paperwork
Sort this out before you show up. Whoever books and signs must be 21 or older with photo ID. Drivers can be 14 and up, but anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 needs a Florida boater safety card; the temporary online version takes about 30 minutes, and they send the link after you book. Riders under 18 need a guardian's signature. No alcohol. Arrive 30 minutes early. Google lists hours as 9 am to 6 pm daily, while the company's site says 7 am to 6 pm, daylight rides only, so confirm your slot when you book.
