For classical fans, curious first-timers and anyone planning a dressed-up night on South Beach. The orchestra is a training academy, so the players are early in their careers; expect energy, not famous names on every program.

Who's on stage

The New World Symphony calls itself America's Orchestral Academy, and the musicians are Fellows: young players on the cusp of professional careers. This season, 32 new Fellows joined 55 returning ones under Artistic Director Stéphane Denève. The program runs from core repertoire to modern work. Early November shows the range: a Spooky Symphony concert for kids on November 1, chamber music with contemporary dance in Music in Motion on November 6, violinist Sean Lee in Debussy's Influence on November 8, and Mozart's Requiem with the Master Chorale of South Florida on November 14. The Gehry building

Frank Gehry designed the campus, and the orchestra leans hard on its acoustics and tech. That tech also reaches outside: WALLCAST concerts project performances for an audience under the stars, which is a good low-commitment way to try the orchestra before buying a seat. The calendar for those is separate from the indoor season, so check it on its own. There's also a Date Night series pitched at couples, plus Immersive Concerts for Kids if you're bringing children. Weekly guided tours of the building run too, handy if you care more about the architecture than the music.

Box office and timing

The hours on the listing are box office hours, not concert times. The box office is open Monday to Friday, 10 am to 5 pm. On weekday concert days it stays open from 10 am until intermission. On weekend concert days it opens at noon and runs until intermission, and on weekends with no show it's closed. So a Saturday walk-up only works if there's a concert that day.
