South Pointe Park Pier is the end of Miami Beach: a 450-foot pier into the ocean at the mouth of Government Cut, free, rated 4.8 by over 8,000 visitors, and the best sunset walk on the island.
Why you go
Because from the end of the pier you see the ocean, the beach and the cruise ships sliding out of the port at once. People fish from it, with fish-cleaning stations to prove it, and there are viewing stations along the way.
When to go
Late afternoon to sunset, when the cruise ships leave and the light is soft. Early morning is quiet and good for fishing. Opening hours are not listed with us; the park around it closes at night.
Know before you go
Free. It starts at 1 Washington Avenue, at the far end of South Pointe Park. The park lot fills on weekends; walking down from South Beach is the easy way in.
