The short answer

October is the month Miami's summer lets go. The average high drops from 88°F to 84°F, the average low from 76°F to 71°F, and the rain eases from day to day: the daily normals at the end of the month are about half what they are at the start. The National Weather Service Miami office closes the rainy season on October 15.

Two things keep October from being as easy as winter. It is still Atlantic hurricane season, which runs until November 30, and the National Hurricane Center counts mid-August to mid-October as the most active stretch. And it is king tide season, when the highest tides of the year can flood low streets in Miami and Miami Beach on dry, sunny days.

Hurricanes and king tides, in practice

A hurricane season trip is mostly a planning question. Book refundable rates or travel insurance if you can, follow the National Hurricane Center's outlooks in the week before you fly, and know that a storm far out in the Atlantic can still bring rough surf and rip currents to Miami's beaches.

King tides are smaller but more predictable. The City of Miami lists its 2026 windows as September 10 to 13, September 26 to 30, October 7 to 13, October 24 to 30, November 6 to 9 and November 23 to 26, with October holding the peak days. Flooding usually lasts about three hours, around the high tide. The city's advice is simple: do not drive through floodwater, which can be deeper than it looks, and do not park in low spots overnight.
