Best for Downtown workers who want a big weekday lunch, and for anyone after halal goat or Bengali dishes. The trade-off: split hours with a 3 to 5 pm gap, and no buffet on weekends.

The weekday buffet

The lunch buffet is what draws the Downtown office crowd. According to the restaurant's site, it's $19.95, Monday through Friday, 11:30 am to 3 pm. Google lists the doors opening at 11 am daily, so early arrivals may be ordering from the menu while the buffet gets set up. The site doesn't show a buffet on weekends, so plan on ordering à la carte Saturday and Sunday. It's fair value for this part of town if you go back for seconds, and less so if you're a one-plate person. A chicken biryani off the menu runs $17.95.

Past the tikka masala

The menu runs long, and the Bengali side is where it gets interesting. Begun barta, eggplant cooked with onion and tomato, is $14.95. The bhuna dishes come in chicken, lamb, goat or beef with a reduced tomato and onion sauce. The Bengal Special Biryani puts chicken, lamb, shrimp and egg on one plate for $21.95. Every entree comes with basmati rice, so you don't need to add a side. Everything is halal, and goat shows up across the curries, kurmas, shaag and biryani, which isn't a given Downtown. Samosas and onion bhaji are $5.95 to start.

Mind the 3 pm gap

Hours are split every day: 11 am to 3 pm, then 5 to 10 pm, seven days a week. Show up at 4 and the door will be locked. Google describes the room as urbane rather than bare-bones, and the place holds a 4.4 from about 1,200 Google reviews. That's solid for a kitchen that has been at it since 2009. It started in Midtown on Biscayne and 20th and moved to this Downtown address in 2017. On weekdays at lunch, expect the buffet to set the pace of the room.

Reservas

The restaurant's site has a table booking option, which is worth using for a dinner group.

Bueno saberlo

The kitchen closes from 3 to 5 pm daily, so don't plan a late lunch.
