Good for groups, visitors and anyone who wants frozen drinks with bay views and a band. It's loud, touristy and tied to the Bayside mall crowd, so skip it if you want a quiet cocktail.

What to drink

Frozen cocktails are the house specialty, and they make sense when Bayside's afternoon heat sits on the deck. Behind the 200-plus feet of bar, which the venue calls one of Miami's largest, there are more than 300 rums and over 200 tequilas. That makes a rum neat or a tequila flight the better order if slushies aren't your thing. The venue says drinks without food are fine, so you can stop in for a sunset round and leave. Pier 5 has a 4.4 from about 270 Google reviews, which is solid for a spot that sees this many tourists.

Food comes to you

Pier 5 doesn't run its own kitchen in the usual sense. Each table has a QR code for ordering from Bayside restaurants including Black Market Miami, Ben's Pizza, La Industria and Skoops. That means tacos, New York-style pizza, shareable bites and ice cream, delivered to wherever you're sitting. The site says there are vegetarian options and suggests asking staff what's current. Expect mall food court quality rather than a destination meal, with a much better view. It works well for groups where everyone wants something different.

When it gets loud

Something plays on the waterfront stage every day: Latin and Caribbean sets, jazz, DJs and live bands. The weekly lineup has named nights, including Live From Pier 5 on Fridays, Chispa Saturdays and Soundwave Sundays. During the day there are deck games and shaded lounges, and the venue says it's fine for all ages. After dark it turns into a nightlife crowd. Google lists hours as 11 am to 10:30 pm daily, but the venue's own site lists much later closing times. Check before you plan a late night around it.
