Three days a week

The Urban only opens Friday through Sunday, so plan around that. Friday runs 5 pm to 1 am, Saturday stretches from noon to 1 am, and Sunday goes 11 am to 9 pm, which makes it the easy daytime pick of the weekend. Monday through Thursday it's closed. It sits at 1000 NW 2nd Ave in Overtown, on the edge of Downtown, and holds a 4.5 from about 450 Google reviews. Special events and live music rotate through, so check the events page or Instagram before heading over rather than assuming there's a band that night.

Food, drinks and vendors

A centralized bar anchors the space, alongside a restaurant, and the setup leans toward a local food market. Food trucks and food and beverage concepts apply to sell here, so what's on offer can shift. The house touch is in the names: menu items and craft cocktails are named after Miami pioneers, trailblazers and historic landmarks, which is a fair excuse to ask the bartender who's who. Local retail vendors sell handmade goods and handpicked items too, so it works for a slow browse with a drink in hand. No price level is listed, so check the menu when you arrive.

Hosting your own thing

The Urban rents out the venue for private events, and it pitches professional support, service and amenities along with the space. Bookings start with a form on its website, so expect some back-and-forth on dates and details rather than an instant quote. If you run a food truck or a food and beverage concept, there's a separate vendor application, and the place clearly wants local operators. The owners' pitch is neighbors mixing with visitors over food and drinks in the heart of Overtown. For a birthday or a group outing, that's a reasonable fit with more character than a hotel ballroom.
